Case: Los Marinos Beach

I have lived in the Galapagos Islands for 25 years, made up of 13 islands and more than 9000 species, being declared a Natural Heritage of Humanity in 1978. Sadly today in one of its Islands, "The Island of San Cristóbal", that heritage is not be respectful. This island is home to frigates, blue-footed boobies, sea lions, marine iguanas, and hundreds of other species. The biodiversity of this island is at risk, since one of its beaches called Los Marinos houses the largest colony of sea lions in the Galapagos Islands, which were declared in danger of extinction in 2008, they are exposed to the discharge of black water. without any treatment. Currently this place has been abandoned by the authorities, in addition this beach is used by smaller boats, which use dangerous materials and substances, putting the community and the environment at risk. Although Galapagos lives from tourism, we cannot allow this to go against the natural heritage of humanity. The population must recover the Marinos beach as soon as possible and protect the life of this species, creating adequate space for the smallest boats to carry out their repairs without damaging the environment and guaranteeing a healthy environment free of contamination. Let us remember that the Galapagos ecosystem is very fragile and this type of intervention seriously affects its balance. We need to prevent and mitigate the damage that is being done at Playa de los Marinos. Sign and share this petition to protect the fragile ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands.
